Small Ceremony in a Vast Athens Church
This was a small and simple baptism for a Ukrainian family at the Church of Agios Panteleimonas in Athens.
The scale of the church created an unusual contrast: a small group of relatives gathered around a two-year-old girl inside an enormous, richly decorated space.
I stayed with the family for two hours. I photographed the prayers at the beginning of the service, the central moments around the baptismal font, the time when the child was dressed afterwards and several group photographs outside the church.

Photographing the Ceremony Naturally
At around two years old, the girl found the ceremony overwhelming and cried through much of it. I followed her rhythm without forcing smiles, focusing on the important moments and the way her family comforted her.
Most of the ceremony was photographed without flash in difficult mixed light. Afterwards, we moved outside for a few relaxed photographs of the whole family.
